Top 3 Reasons We “Reboot” Our Lives

I know the economy is lame right now. I know that people are working harder for less, just so that they can have a steady paycheck, some of us have even had our paychecks cut to “save” the company. Do we really have the time to hit the reboot button? YES! Here’s why I think we all need to reboot sometimes.

1. There is just so much the body can take. Numerous studies have pointed out the negative effects on stress on our bodies. You must find a release. No time to find your passion you say? I’m not talking about a drastic overhaul in your daily schedule. Just get up out of your office chair, unhook the ball and chain that is at your feet and walk around for 5 or 10 minutes. You will feel better, you will be more creative and you will get to see the sun for at least a little bit today.

2. This one goes along with #1…Kiss your kids, dog, hamster, neighbor. I don’t care who you are, we all need and want to be loved. Love the ones who live with you, give them a big squeeze, a rub on their belly and melt your tension away. Except of course if you are driving through the drive-thru on your way to baseball practice, then hug the kids when you stop the car.

3. Take stock of what is really important. I guess there really is just one reason to reboot. Remember a job is just a job. Your life is yours forever. Your job won’t be there forever (trust me, it won’t). Thank God for your blessings. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and remember, you are the one that can make a difference in your life. If you want to change, you can do it. Ask for help when you need it. The village doesn’t go away when you turn 18, you still need a village to live your life to its fullest potential.

    M!

You said it perfect! Lately I have been feeling so drained with work and question, “is it really worth it?”. Each time I battle with it because I’m a single mother even if I wasnt one I wouldn’t be able to afford NOT to work. However I strongly believe that being a single parent really takes away the luxury of having one parent work for the family while the other takes care of the family with a possible switch a few years down the road so that both parents feel fufilled with their choice to parent or work full time and no one has to compromise their dream – rebooting.

We creative people have the opportunity of having both but the fear of not having a stable pay check is heavy. I’m still having a hard time finding my reboot button – help!!!

Thank god for my village (my parents and siblings). Hey! Have you read Chris Rock’s wife book? You can not raise a child without a village? May not be the exact title but I heard its really good. I’ll find her name and title and i’ll post it for you to check out.

    Great job Michelle.

Thanks N! The reboot button is one that can be lost for a while. I know. I just came off of a 9 month stint where I realize now that I just went in one big circle, and sacrificed, sure it gave us somewhat of a financial boost, but you should see how happy my kids are now that I am around more! It is a luxury to stay home and for some, a necessity, but when it really comes down to it, you need to do what is best for your family, and find the tolerance level that is unique to everyone and each situation. Love ya! I will check out the book!
